Congress Introduction
The International Federation of Rock Art Organizations (IFRAO) launched its first IFRAO Congress in 1992, and has hosted Congresses in many different countries since. With the rapid economic development in China and the increasing influence of the Chinese culture, China is ready to be the new host.
Guizhou Province, located in the center of the Southwestern China, is rich in the resources of rock art and has recovered more than ten rock art relics up till now scattering all around the province. Closely linked to the local ethnic culture and ecological environment, they are the significant representative of the rock painting in the Southwestern China. Neighboring four surrounding provinces, Guizhou facilitates rock art investigation with its convenient transport. So the 2014 IFRAO Congress settles in its capital Guiyang, with the hope of granting more people the access to a more systematic and profound understanding of the history and appreciation of art of the prehistoric China and the world.
