Message....: I am researching petroglyphs comparable to the 'Swastika
Stone' on Ilkley Moor, West Yorkshire, England. It has been
compared to petroglyphs in Hoveriæs, Sweden (Fredsjo) and
in Carpene di Sellero, Italy (Anati). I am unable to get
hold of the relevant material in print, and I am searching
for images of these other swastika-related petroglyphs on
the internet. Anyone who could direct me straight to images
of these carvings on the web would save me a lot of time -
I've already searched extensively and had no luck.

Message....: Just discovered your site while looking for information on Mongolian petroglyphs. I'm currently researching these as part of an MA in Archaeology. I'd welcome any information other readers might be able to give me on Mongolian sites. I've visited several myself during expeditions in 1994 and 1996. I'm also interested in stelea, especially those depicting images of the the Deer Goddess culture. I'd also like to make contact with others who may be researching this field, especially Mongolian researchers.

Message....: I recently attended the rock art sessions at SAA and found them quite informative. As I work in the west it was particularly interesting to see and hear of work that is being accomplished in the east. However, I was disturbed by slides that were shown with chalked petroglyphs. Please tell me this isn’t still being done in some areas. Hopefully it was just some old slides. I really didn’t get a chance to ask about this after the talk. If anyone knows about this please let me know.
Message....: I have finally completed my WebPage concerned with rock art. The argument that I make in my page is that rock art worldwide is driven by a single practice common to all hunter-gatherers: shamanism. It is a pretty neat page, with some very neat graphics. So please, stop by. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/3339/rockart.html

Message....: Dear Sir, I am a High School Junior on the Navajo Reservation. We are studing acid rain. My question is, what are the effects of acid rain on archeological ruins? This area has hundreds of ancient Anasazi ruins dating back to 850 to 1300 A.D and the soil here is very sandy. Have there been any studies done on the effects of acid rain on such sights? Thanks for answering my question. Tara

Also, the Bay Area Rock Art Conservation and Education Fund seeks tax deductible donations for the purpose of engaging in Conservation and education projects in Northern California. Currently, the Ring Mountain Petroglyphs are our #1 conservation priority. However, it is also time to make public comment on the Resource Managemnt Plan being developed to protect the very fragile paintings at the Vasco Caves (Altamont Pass, Livermore). Contact East Bay Regional Parks re: these. On the education front, BARARA is working with the Bancroft Library, UC-Berkeley, to establish a Northern California Rock Art Archive.
